A Joomla MCP server gives your AI assistant the ability to manage your site — but the quality of what it does depends entirely on what you ask it to do. Vague prompts produce mediocre results. Precise, well-structured prompts produce work you can publish directly.
This article is a practical reference: copy-paste prompt templates for the most common Joomla site management tasks, organized by workflow. Use them as-is or adapt them to your site's specific needs.
All templates assume you have Claude (or another MCP-compatible AI) connected to your Joomla site via a Joomla MCP server. If you haven't set that up yet, start with our guide: Joomla MCP Server: What It Does and How to Set It Up.

Requirements: under 155 characters, include the keyword "[keyword]", end with a subtle call to action.
Bulk Meta Description Audit

Then, for each one, write a suggested meta description based on the article title.

- Are over 60 characters
- Don't include the primary keyword
- Are duplicated across articles
Suggest improved titles for the flagged ones.

For each article, suggest 2–3 natural internal linking opportunities —
which other articles it should link to and what anchor text to use.
Format as: Article → Link To → Suggested Anchor Text
Site Maintenance Prompts
These templates help you run regular site health checks and housekeeping tasks without manually clicking through the Joomla backend.
Weekly Content Audit
On my Joomla site, find:
1. All articles in "unpublished" state (state = 0) older than 30 days
2. All articles missing a meta description
3. All articles missing a featured image
List each group separately with article ID, title, and date created.

List them sorted by creation date (oldest first).
For each, show: ID | Title | Category | Created Date
I want to review these for updates or archiving.
Category Cleanup
List all categories on my Joomla site.
For each category, show: Category Name | Published Articles | Unpublished Articles
Flag any categories with 0 published articles.
Bulk Article Update
Update all articles in category [category name] on my Joomla site:
- Add this tag: [tag name] (create the tag if it doesn't exist)
- Set language to: [language code, e.g. en-GB]
Process them one at a time and confirm each update before moving to the next.
Category & Site Structure Prompts
Use these when building out or reorganising your Joomla site structure.
Create a Category Hierarchy
Create the following category structure on my Joomla site.
All categories should be published, language: en-GB.
Parent: Blog (ID: 11)
- [Subcategory 1]: alias [alias-1], description "[description]"
- [Subcategory 2]: alias [alias-2], description "[description]"
- [Subcategory 3]: alias [alias-3], description "[description]"
Create them in order and confirm each one.
Scaffold a New Section
I'm adding a new section to my Joomla site called "[section name]".
Please:
1. Create a category called "[section name]" under Blog (parent ID: 11)
2. Create 3 placeholder articles in that category, each with:
- A relevant title
- A short placeholder paragraph as body
- State: unpublished
- Language: en-GB
Confirm after each step.
Reorganise Articles
Move these Joomla articles to category [target category name]:
- Article ID: [id]
- Article ID: [id]
- Article ID: [id]
Confirm each move before proceeding to the next.
Image & Media Prompts
Upload a Featured Image
Upload a featured image for my article about [topic].
- Source: find a relevant photo on Unsplash for "[search term]"
- Upload to: local-images:/blog/[article-slug].jpg
- Size: 600×400px (use ?w=600&h=400&fit=crop&q=80 in the URL)
Confirm the upload path when done.
Update Article Image
Update the featured image for Joomla article ID [id].
- New image path: images/blog/[new-filename].jpg (already uploaded)
- New alt text: [descriptive alt text]
Keep all other article fields unchanged.
Multi-Site Agency Prompts
If you manage multiple Joomla sites with separate MCP servers registered in your AI client, these templates help you work efficiently across properties.
Cross-Site Content Brief
I need the same article published on two Joomla sites (Site A and Site B).
Topic: [topic]
Audience: [audience]
Length: 1,500 words
Tone: [tone]
Write one version first. After I approve it, adapt it slightly for Site B
(different brand voice: [describe difference]) and publish to both sites.
Site Comparison Audit
Compare the content structure of Site A and Site B:
- How many published articles does each have?
- What categories exist on each site?
- Which categories exist on one site but not the other?
Present as a side-by-side comparison table.
Tips for Getting the Most from These Templates
A few principles that make a big difference in output quality:
- Always specify the audience. The most common reason for a mediocre first draft is an undefined audience. "Joomla developers" and "Joomla site owners" need completely different writing.
- Paste real URLs, never ask Claude to find them. Claude will occasionally construct plausible-looking URLs that don't exist. Always paste the actual URLs you want linked. See our workflow guide for how we handle internal links in our content process.
- Use "confirm before proceeding" for bulk operations. For any task that touches multiple articles or categories, add "confirm each step before moving to the next" — it gives you a checkpoint to catch mistakes.
- Keep a site context block. Create a short reference document with your site name, main categories (with IDs), language codes, and brand voice guidelines. Paste it at the start of any session for consistent results.
- Iterate, don't regenerate. If a section isn't right, tell Claude specifically what to fix rather than asking for a complete rewrite. Targeted revisions are faster and preserve the parts that work.
Conclusion
These templates are starting points, not rigid scripts. The best prompt for your Joomla site is one that reflects your specific categories, audience, and content standards. Adapt these, save the versions that work best, and build your own library over time.
With a Joomla MCP server in place and a solid prompt library, AI-assisted site management stops being experimental and becomes a reliable, repeatable workflow — one that compounds its value with every article published.
