How do I add custom fields to articles?
Content → Fields: create the field and pick the categories it belongs to. It then appears as a tab when you edit an article.
What custom fields are for
Custom fields add structured data to articles: a price, a date, a location, a set of options. Editors fill them in a tab of the article form, and they show on the site with a consistent layout.
Create a field
- Optional: create a group in Content → Field Groups (the group becomes its own tab in the article form).
- Go to Content → Fields → New.
- Enter a title, choose the Type (text, list, calendar, media, checkboxes, subform…), and set its options.
- Under Category, choose the categories it belongs to (or All), and pick a Field Group if you made one.
- Save. Edit an article in that category: the field appears in its tab.
How fields show on the site
- Fields with a value show automatically after the article title or text (set in the field's Options); empty fields are hidden.
- For your own layout, use a template override for the article or the field.
Good to know
- Fields also work for users, contacts and categories, for example extra profile fields.
