How long is Joomla 5 supported?
Bug fixes for Joomla 5 ended on 13 October 2026. It gets security fixes only until 12 October 2027, so plan your move to Joomla 6 before then.
The official dates
Joomla follows a fixed support policy: after a new major version comes out, the previous one gets one more year of bug fixes and then one more year of security fixes only.
For Joomla 5 that means: bug fixes ended on 13 October 2026 (Joomla 5.4.10 was the last bug-fix release), and security fixes continue until 12 October 2027. After that date Joomla 5 gets no updates at all.
What this means for your site
- Until 12 October 2027: keep installing Joomla 5.4 updates; they contain security fixes.
- Now: check whether your template and extensions are ready for Joomla 6, and plan the upgrade.
- After 12 October 2027: a Joomla 5 site no longer receives security fixes, so known problems stay unpatched.
Good to know
- The upgrade from 5.4 to 6 is an in-place update, not a rebuild, once your extensions are ready.
