How do I install a template?
System → Install → Extensions: upload the template zip. Then make it the default in System → Site Template Styles (the star).
Templates and template styles
A template decides how your site looks. You install it like any extension, then make one of its styles the default. A style is a template with its own settings (colours, logo, layout); you can have several styles of one template and use different ones on different pages.
Install and switch
- Download the template zip from its provider (check it is made for your Joomla version).
- Go to System → Install → Extensions and upload the zip.
- Go to System → Site Template Styles.
- Click the star in the Default column next to the new template's style. The site now uses it.
- Open the style to set the logo, colours and fonts.
Use a style on some pages only
Open the style and use its Menu Assignment tab to pick the pages it should be used on, or choose the style in a menu item's settings.
Good to know
- Your modules stay, but they may sit in positions the new template doesn't have. Reassign them in Content → Site Modules.
- Make changes in a child template or user.css, not in the template's own files, or updates will overwrite them.
