How do I show a page only to logged-in users?

JoomlaUsers, login & permissions Updated 17 Oct 2026

Set the article's or menu item's Access to "Registered". Visitors who aren't logged in won't see it.

How it works

Visibility is set with the Access field. Content with the access level Registered is only shown to visitors who are logged in.

Restrict the page

  1. Open the article (or category, module, menu item) and set Access to Registered.
  2. Do the same for the menu item if the link itself should be hidden from guests.
  3. Save and test in a private window.

Send guests to the login form

If the menu item stays visible to everyone but the content is Registered, Joomla can show guests the login form and send them back to the page after logging in (see the official "Auto Redirect Guests to Login" guide).

Good to know

  • For different member groups, create your own access level (Users → Access Levels) and pick it instead of Registered.
  • Don't put truly confidential files in the media folder: files are reachable by direct URL. Use a download extension with access control for those.
