Which Joomla version is my site on?

JoomlaGetting started Updated 17 Oct 2026

Log in to the administrator: the version is shown in the top-right corner of the header, and in System → System Information.

Why you need to know

The version decides which updates, extensions and instructions apply to your site. Joomla 3, 4, 5 and 6 differ a lot, and most guides say which version they are for.

Where to find it

  1. Log in at example.com/administrator.
  2. Look at the top-right corner of the administrator header: it shows the Joomla version.
  3. For the exact version and your server details, open System → System Information. It also shows your PHP and database versions, which you need when you upgrade.

Can't log in?

Ask your host or developer to open the file administrator/manifests/files/joomla.xml: the version line shows the exact Joomla version.

Good to know

  • The Home Dashboard also tells you when a newer version is available in its Notifications panel.
