Joomla doesn't offer the newest version

FixJoomlaUpdating & upgrading Updated 17 Oct 2026

Click Check for updates in System → Update. If nothing shows, check the update channel in Options and that "Joomla! Core" is enabled in System → Update Sites.

Why it happens

Joomla checks for updates now and then and caches the result. It also only offers what your settings allow: the update channel, the minimum stability, and whether your server meets the next version's requirements.

Check these

  1. In System → Update → Joomla, click Check for Updates to refresh.
  2. Click Options: Update Channel set to Default offers updates within your major version; Joomla Next also offers the next major version. Minimum Stability should be Stable.
  3. Go to System → Update → Update Sites and make sure Joomla! Core is enabled.
  4. For a major upgrade, check the requirements in System → System Information: if PHP is too old, the option doesn't appear.
  5. Clear the cache (System → Clear Cache) and check again.

Good to know

  • Your server must be able to reach update.joomla.org. If it can't, use upload and update with the package from downloads.joomla.org.
