How do I add a login page or login link?

JoomlaUsers, login & permissions Updated 17 Oct 2026

Create a menu item of the type "Users → Login Form", or publish the Login module in a position of your template.

Two ways

A login page is a menu item that shows the login form; a login module shows the form in a sidebar or header. Use the page for a "Log in" link in your menu.

A login page

  1. Go to Menus → Main Menu → New.
  2. Menu Item Type: Users → Login Form.
  3. In the item's options, set where users go after logging in and out (Login Redirect, Logout Redirect).
  4. Save. Its address is now your login page.

A login module

  1. Go to Content → Site Modules → New and choose Login.
  2. Pick a position in your template and the pages it shows on (Menu Assignment).
  3. Save. Logged-in users see a Log out button in the same place.

Good to know

  • Hide the "Log in" menu link from logged-in users by setting its Access to Guest.
